Genesis has released new pictures and
details about the facelifted G70, following its debut last month. Since we’ve
already covered the styling changes, we’ll focus on new details such as the
fact that the windshield and front doors now use acoustic glass. This promises
to make a quieter and more comfortable cabin.
Speaking of the interior, the G70 features
an upgraded instrument cluster which now comes standard with an 8-inch display.
The car has also been equipped with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen
infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility as well
as voice recognition technology and Genesis CarPay. The latter enables to pay
for parking or gas without leaving your car. Other highlights include a
built-in dashcam and digital key technology. The G70 can also be equipped with
an upgraded wireless smartphone charger which now charges devices even faster.
Under the hood, three different engines
will be available. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 249 hp and 353 Nm of torque, while the twin-turbo
3.3-liter V6 develops 365 hp and 510 Nm. South
Korean customers can also get a 2.2-liter turbodiesel pumping out 199 hp and 441 Nm of torque.
All three can be equipped with a Sport
package / trim which includes sportier styling as well as functional upgrades
such as an adaptive suspension, Brembo brakes and a limited-slip differential.
On the V6, it also includes a variable sports exhaust system with an
“aggressive” exhaust note. The petrol-powered Sport variants are also a touch
more powerful as the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder develops 252 hp. Likewise, the twin-turbo V6 sees its output climb to 368 hp. Speaking of performance, the G70 gains a new Sports+ drive mode.
Genesis says it deactivates the engine start/stop system and delays gear
upshifts as “much as possible” when accelerating.
The model can also be equipped with a dynamic
all-wheel drive system that features a built-in drift mode. The company didn’t
say much about it, but revealed the system “raises the engine torque above the
tire’s limiting performance, enabling the driving technology to escape the
curve as if sliding.” On the safety front, the G70 features an assortment of
driver assistance systems including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist,
Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic
Collision-Avoidance Assist. There’s also Lane Following Assist, Multi Collision
Braking and navigation-based Smart Cruise Control.
The aforementioned specifications are for
the Korean market G70 and the company noted the updated model will arrive in
international markets in 2021.
