Subaru has used Subiefest to introduce a prototype of the redesigned BRZ. While the company only released a partial teaser image, people who attended the event have uploaded pictures of the prototype to social media. The images aren’t great, but they show the 2022 BRZ will feature an evolutionary design with streamlined bodywork. While we can only see part of the front end, the car has flush-mounted headlights and sportier air intakes.
The bulging front fenders have also been
dropped and this helps to create a sleeker appearance. Other notable features
include front fender vents, a flatter beltline and a rakish windscreen which
flows into a sloping roof. Out back, there are slender taillights and a trunk
with an integrated spoiler. Previous spy photos have also shown a sportier rear
bumper and a dual exhaust system.
Performance specs were included in one of
the posts on social media and it claims the BRZ will have a 2.4-liter
four-cylinder that produces 217 hp and 240 Nm of
torque. That should be taken with a grain of salt, but it would be a minor
increase over the current 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops up to
205 hp and 212 Nm of torque.
The increase of 12 hp and 28 Nm probably wouldn’t be enough to satisfy drivers who have been
begging for more power, but every little bit helps. It’s also worth noting the
BRZ is more focused on handling than mind-boggling performance specs. Of
course, we can expect to learn more shortly as the 2022 BRZ will debut this
fall.
