Volkswagen has teamed up with Walkinshaw Performance to create a special edition of the Amarok. Set to launch on December 1, with customer deliveries commencing next April, the Amarok W580, which is the official name of the tuned pickup truck, is the result of approximately 12 months of collaboration between the two companies, which was also supported by the VW Commercial Vehicles in Germany.
Presented with a white paint finish and
black decals, the pickup features unique styling details, including the grille
and bumper, as well as a custom twin exhaust with side pipes. The 9×20-inch
Clayton rims, shod in 275/50 Pirelli Scorpion tires, are a nod to VW
Australia’s ancestral home of Clayton from 1953, which is now Walkinshaw’s HQ.
The sports bar, wheel arch extensions,
tuned suspension that’s 40 mm (1.6 in) higher on the front axle, bi-xenon
headlights, LED fog lamps and W580 interior branding with bespoke plaque are
included in the package. The Amarok W580 retains the standard model’s 3.0-liter
turbodiesel V6 engine. In the range-topping model, it pumps out 268 HP on overboost and 580 Nm of torque and comes paired to an
eight-speed automatic transmission.
VW is trying to lure in more customers
with the special edition vehicle, which is described as “the ultimate GT-spec
ute”, by promising the first 30 who complete an online pre-order and proceed to
purchase it, an all-expenses paid ‘exclusive Walkinshaw experience’ with a
factory tour and a track day.
