We knew Suzuki was going to begin selling the Across, a re-badged RAV4 PHEV, in Europe this fall, and we finally have official word regarding pricing and availability. The Across plug-in hybrid goes on sale in the UK starting next month, priced at £ 45,599 OTR, the equivalent of US$ 59,000. The Japanese carmaker says that there will be “very limited supply availability” in the first full year.
Buyers can choose between six different
colors in White Pearl Crystal Shine, Silver Metallic, Attitude Black Mica,
Sensual Red Mica, Grey Metallic and Dark Blue Mica. Metallic and Mica paint are
available as a no cost option. Standard specs include the E-Four electronic 4×4
system, leather seats, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, Dual
Zone Automatic Air Conditioning, auto function opening tailgate and a 9-inch
multimedia touchscreen display. Further features include the LED headlights
with bi-beam projector (combining low and high beams) and LED DRL, as well as
19-inch wheels with black gloss coating.
The plug-in hybrid system in the Across
combines a front electric motor with a 2.5-liter gasoline unit and an 18.1 kWh
lithium-ion battery mounted under the floor. The result is a class-leading EV
range of 75 km. In fact, the carmaker wanted to emphasize this
model’s EV range as well as its performance, and made a chart comparing it with
other plug-in hybrid crossovers such as the Range Rover Evoque 1.5 P300e, Ford
Kuga 2.5 EcoBoost PHEV, Peugeot 3008 1.6 Hybrid4 300 GT, Citroen C5 Aircross
1.6 Hybrid, Vauxhall Grandland X 1.6 PHEV and the Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4
PHEV.
Based on these numbers, the Suzuki Across
emits fewer g/km of CO2, has a better EV range and is just as fast as its
quickest rival to 62 mph. As for active safety, some of the Across’ key
functions include its Pre-Collision System, Lane Tracing Assist and Dynamic
Radar Cruise Control.
