Toyota has expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the Proace Verso Electric. The people carrier will go on sale this month in Europe, with deliveries expected from March 2021 – in three body lengths and four model grades, dubbed the Combi, Shuttle, Family and VIP, accommodating between 5 and 9 people onboard.

Positioned beneath the floor, the 50 kWh battery pack gives it a range of up to 230 km on a full charge, in the WLTP cycle, while the 75 kWh option lets you drive for up to 330 km. Both battery variants power the 136-horsepower and 260 Nm motor, which allows for an electronically limited maximum speed of 130 km/h.

All versions of the MPV are equipped with a standard 7.4 kWh charger, which can be upgraded to an 11 kWh charger at a premium. The 50 kWh battery can be recharged in around 30 minutes at a 100 kW charging station while the 75 kWh unit takes approximately 45 minutes. Depending on the spec, the load volumes vary between 280, 640 and 1,060 liters with all seats in place. The towing capacity with a braked trailer is 1 ton, with a 50 percent payload.

Things such as the heated seats, infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen display, digital radio, smartphone integration, keyless entry, electric parking brake, auto-folding mirrors and others are standard, while the sat-nav and automatic air-con are optional.

Drivers will have to use a switch in order to choose between the different powertrain modes and an E-toggle control to select between Drive, Reverse, Neutral, Park and Regenerative Braking. Meanwhile, the instrument display shows the speed, instantaneous power usage, battery charge and the performance of the A/C.

The latest Toyota Safety Sense suite of assistance gear is included, with features such as Lane Departure Alert, Pre-collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beam and full-range Cruise Control. The Blind Spot Monitor, 180-degree reversing camera, and front and rear parking sensors are offered on higher grades.
