The Huracan STO is the most track-focused variant of Lamborghini’s long-serving V10-powered supercar and if history teaches us anything, it could be followed up by a Spyder variant. The Italian automaker has produced the Huracan Super Trofeo Omologata to replace the Huracan Performante, a supercar that’s already very track-focused and delivers some pretty extraordinary performance.
Throughout the history of the Huracan and
the Aventador, Lamborghini typically follows up its hardcore Coupe models with
open-top variants. For example, the Huracan Performante is available as a
Spyder, while the Aventador SVJ is also sold as a Roadster. With this in mind,
rendering artist Aksyonov Nikita has imagined a potential droptop version of
the Huracan STO.
Rendered in a vibrant shade of red and
offset with a handful of black and gold parts, the aggressive aero parts of the
Huracan STO translate nicely into a Spyder variant. We’ve got no doubt that the
induction noises made by the roof scoop would be more audible by the passengers
with the top removed. If Lamborghini really intends to build an STO Spyder, we
don’t expect them to make any powertrain changes. As such, the hardcore Huracan
would continue to use the Coupe’s 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 delivering
631 hp and 565 Nm of torque, all of which is sent to the rear
wheels courtesy of a dual-clutch transmission.
Interestingly, the spiritual predecessor
to the STO, the Gallardo STS (Super Trofeo Stradale) was not sold as a Spyder.
However, whereas the STS was limited to just 150 units, Lamborghini hasn’t set
a cap on how many Huracan STOs it will build – and, in any case, maybe this
time around they’ll do things differently and build an open top as well.
