Lamborghini has officially unveiled the
Huracan STO and judging by its aero prowess and performance figures, this is
shaping up to be one of the most track-competent supercars in the world. Let’s
start with its 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 unit and get the fact that it
doesn’t produce any more power than it does in the Huracan Evo out of the way.
This means 631 HP. However, everything goes to the rear wheel
exclusively in the STO.
Other meaningful stats include the 565 Nm of torque, which is actually less than you get in the Huracan Evo
(600 Nm), but also the 2.09 kg/HP weight to power ratio. As you may
have guessed, this Huracan has been on a diet and it’s now 43 kg lighter than the already lightweight Performante variant. This all translates
to the asphalt as follows: 0-100 km/h in 3 seconds flat, 0-200 km/h in 9 seconds flat, and a top speed of 310 km/h.
By looking at its Squadra Corse models for
inspiration, the carmaker managed to maximize aerodynamic performance on the
Huracan STO, from bumper to bumper. Take for example the hood, which is
actually a single component (hood, fenders and bumper) – inspired by the Sesto
Elemento. There’s also a new front splitter that directs airflow to the newly
designed underbody and the rear diffuser.
The new rear fender is derived from the
Super Trofeo EVO, serving basically as an engine air intake, allowing for a 30%
decrease in static pressure losses. The rear engine hood meanwhile features an
integrated air scoop and dedicated air deflectors. Then there’s the shark fin,
adjustable rear wing, new front brake cooling ducts and Brembo CCM-R brakes,
plus the overall construction, which is 75% carbon fiber.
The Huracan STO is thus said to achieve
the highest level of downforce in its class with the best aero balance for a
rear-wheel drive car. Compared to the Huracan
Performante, this new variant has 37% better airflow efficiency and 53% more
downforce. Plus, the whole thing weighs just 1,339 kg. Furthermore,
you get an increased wheel track, stiffer suspension, a more direct
pedal-to-throttle feel, faster gear changes, sharper steering (you also get
rear-wheel steering) and an improved engine sound sharpness at high revs.
Lamborghini also added three new driving
modes for the ANIMA system in STO, Trofeo and Pioggia. The STO mode is for
driving on the road, while Trofeo focuses on giving you all the performance you
need for fast lap times. Pioggia of course means “rain”, so you get
optimizations for the traction control system , torque vectoring and ABS so
that you can deal with the wet asphalt.
As for the interior, there’s extensive use
of carbon fiber throughout the cabin, including the sports seats (full carbon
fiber), Alcantara upholstery with Lamborghini’s Carbonskin, carbon fiber floor
mats and door panels (with door latch), plus four-point seat belts. There’s
even a newly designed frunk for helmet storage. Looking at your gauge cluster
will reveal new graphics and a fully connected telemetry system that allows you
to monitor and record your performance on the track.
Through Lamborghini’s Ad Personam program,
future Huracan STO owners will be able to personalize their car using limitless
paint and trim combinations, as well as race-style vinyls – the Blu Laufey and
Arancio California liveries are just two examples. Customers will take delivery
of their Lamborghini Huracan STO this upcoming spring, with prices starting from US$ 327,838 (taxes excluded) in the United States, 249,412 EUR (taxes excluded) in
Europe, GBP 216,677 (taxes excluded) in the UK, RMB 3,900,000 (taxes included)
in China and YEN 37,500,000 (taxes excluded) in Japan.
