Rivian has been spied testing its all-electric van for Amazon near its headquarters and alongside three prototypes of the R1T pickup truck. Back in September 2019, Amazon ordered 100,000 electric vans from Rivian to be delivered by 2030. The first 10,000 of these will be on the road as early as 2022 and with this prototype, the EV startup appears to be putting the final touches on the vehicle.
Despite official images already showing
the van in full, this prototype has some body cladding across its front and
rear fascias. Details regarding the vehicle’s electric powertrain remain
unclear but Rivian will likely be looking to maximize the van’s range while
also ensuring it offers fast-charging speeds. As for the three Rivian R1T
prototypes spied in these photos from the Rivian Owners Forum, they too have
been adorned in camouflage but looking production-ready.
In November, Rivian announced pricing
details for the R1T, as well as its R1S SUV sibling. The R1T will be sold in
Launch Edition, Adventure, and Explore guises with prices for the entry-level
Explore sitting at US$ 67,500 and increasing to US$ 75,000 for both the Launch
Edition and Adventure variants.
Shoppers will be able to purchase the
Rivian R1T with 105 kWh, 135 kWh, and 180 kWh battery packs. Meanwhile,
horsepower from the four electric motors will range from 402 hp in the base
model to 700 hp in the range-focused model, and 754 hp in the high-performance
version.
