Seat has recently reported having invested over € 30 million into the construction of its Powertrain Development Centre over the past five years. Okay, but what is the Volkswagen SMV Concept doing in there?
There is no guaranteed way to determine
that the vehicle shown on the freshly made spy pics is the SMV, but the
windows, the sides, the mirrors and the c-pillars all look exactly like it. As
such, we suspect SEAT might be working on a production car for Europe based on
the VW concept.
Volkswagen AG had initially wanted to
target China with the SMV Concept. The production model was to be named the
Talagon. However, at the same time, company representatives have been making
hints that a mix between an SUV and an MPV called the Variosport was underway
to the European markets. Could the latter be just a renamed and differently
equipped Talagon?
The move would make good sense for Europe,
considering that customers in Germany who would like to buy a long-wheelbase
variant of the VW Atlas/Teramont don’t have such an option today. If the
rumored Talagon were to be launched in Europe with 5.1 meters of
body length, it would fill in the gap nicely.
