VW has officially revealed the new VW Golf GTI Clubsport 45, a special edition to commemorate 45 years since the launch of the original Golf GTI, back in the summer of 1976. Images of the new special edition VW Golf GTI have leaked online a few days ago but now we have the full info.
Based on the VW Golf GTI Clubsport, the
new special edition ‘Clubsport 45’ offers a unique look that includes a black
roof and a matching roof spoiler, the exclusive Race package, as well as 19-inch
Scottsdale alloy wheels in a high-gloss black finish and a Tornado Red
pinstripe. There’s also lettering on the side sill panel with the ‘45’ also
making an appearance on the boot lid.
The
Race Package also adds a sport exhaust system and removes the 250 km/h top-speed limiter. The new Golf GTI Clubsport 45 also features
matrix LED headlights with a red trim strip as standard. The interior of the
latest special edition Golf GTI comes with front premium sports seats with the
GTI lettering while the sports steering wheel now features the ‘45’ at the
center spoke.
Under the skin, everything remains the
same as with the standard Golf GTI Clubsport. This means a 2.0-liter
turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 296 HP and 400 Nm, paired to
a standard seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, driving the front wheels. 0-100 km/h comes in less than 6.0 seconds, with the transmission featuring
shorter gear ratios than the standard GTI.
All VW Golf GTI Clubsport models also come
with a VAQ electromechanical locking front differential instead of the
electronic XDS system found in the standard GTI. The adaptive suspension system
has also been upgraded to include not only a new ‘Nurburgring’ mode but also
allows the driver to fine-tune the suspension to the preferred setting,
offering no less than 15 steps between Comfort and Sport.
The new VW Golf GTI Clubsport 45 will go
on sale in selected European countries on March 1, with prices starting from
47,790 euros (US$ 58k) in its home market in
Germany.
