Evergrande, China’s largest property developer, has just revealed three new electric vehicles dubbed the Hengchi 7, Hengchi 8, and Hengchi 9. The company took the covers off its first six planned production vehicles in December 2020, named (rather unimaginatively) the Hengchi 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The three latest additions to the Hengchi family are among the most attractive and while it is unclear when they will hit the market, Evergrande will no doubt be crossing its fingers that they sell well.

Responsible for the design of the Hengchi 7 is Satomi Maruyama, the former head of design at Isuzu. The car takes the shape of a sleek sedan with T-shaped headlights, a two-tone black and white paint finish, and a sleek LED light bar at the rear.

 

Next up is the Hengchi 8, which was designed by Stephane Schwarz, an ex-director of design at Nissan Europe. It is a large, coupe-like sedan dominated by flowing lines and simple curves. The front features slim LED headlights while also encompassing horizontal LED daytime running lights and a blacked-out grille.

Last but not least is the Hengchi 9 that’s been designed by Jason Clark Hill, formerly of Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. It is a medium-sized SUV with a high belt-line and unique headlights connected with an LED light bar that stretches along the front quarter panels. The complex lighting array continues at the rear with an LED light bar.

 

At this stage, we have no technical specifications about the three vehicles. In March 2019, Evergrande made the bold proclamation that within three to five years, it would be “the world’s biggest, and the strongest, electric vehicle group.” Only time will tell if that lofty goal can be achieved.
