Mercedes-Benz is about to dip its fingers into the electric luxury sedan market with the EQS. Expected to debut this spring, before it starts arriving at dealers in the summer, it’s been brought forward by the German manufacturer in a Twitter post that shows its curvy roofline in a dark background.
Looking to find out more about its design,
we applied some basic Photoshop skills to the teaser image, but Mercedes
obviously saw that coming. Even so, we can see the chrome trim surrounding the
glasshouse, flush-mounted door handles, sweptback headlights, LED taillights
and that arched roof believed to end with a liftgate that will enhance its
practicality.
Previewed by the 2019 Vision EQS Concept,
the EQS is built on the Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA), in a premiere for
an electric Benz. Different drivetrain configurations and battery capacities
should be on offer, though details remain a well-guarded secret for now.
Mercedes previously confirmed that the car will be able to travel for over 700 km in the WLTP cycle.
If you’re into the regular MBUX that has
become part of so many modern Mercedes vehicles, then you might be familiar by
the system found inside the EQS. Dubbed the ‘MBUX Hyperscreen’, it is a giant
assembly that stretches across the entire width of the dashboard, encompassing
the digital instrument cluster on the driver’s side, a huge infotainment screen
in the middle and another display for the front passenger. Presented at the
beginning of the year, the Hyperscreen will probably make its way to other
Mercedes cars in the future.
