BMW hosted the international media launch of the new-gen 4-Series Convertible, nearly half a year after the online unveiling, and they took the opportunity to share a plethora of photos of the new open top model. Massive grille aside, the 2021 4-Series Convertible sports a canvas roof, which is one of the biggest changes over its predecessor. Beyond the obvious cost savings (for BMW), that helps lower the center of gravity, thus improving the handling, while reducing weight and enhancing the cargo area behind the seats by 34 liters, to 255 liters.
Featuring multiple layers of insulation
and a fabric cover that can be ordered in Moonlight Black, in addition to the
standard black, the roof can be operated at speeds of up to 50 km/h and takes 18 seconds to lower or raise. The new 4-Series Convertible has a
slightly bigger footprint than the previous generation, and a wheelbase that is
38 mm longer.
US pricing starts at US$ 53,100, excluding
the US$ 995 destination charge and dealer fees, and the range kicks off with the
430i, which uses a turbo’d 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 255 HP
and 400 Nm of torque. Should you want a bit more power from your
open-top Bimmer, then you will have to go for the M440i, with its 382 HP and 500 Nm 3.0-liter turbo-six. This model can be had from US$ 64,000.
Both versions get an eight-speed automatic
transmission and can be ordered with the xDrive all-wheel drive system for a US$ 2,000
premium.
