Mercedes has taken the wraps off the facelifted CLS. Looking instantly recognizable, the 2022 CLS features a revised grille and sportier bumpers. The model also sports restyled wheels and a new paint job called spectral blue metallic (starling blue metallic in the US).  Customers looking for something more exclusive can opt for new designo colors called jupiter red, cashmere white magno and emerald green.

Interior changes are relatively minor, but include a new steering wheel with a two-zone sensor pad in the rim that detects if your hands on the wheel. This should help to prevent erroneous warnings when using the CLS’ semi-autonomous driving systems.

Elsewhere, designers added open-pore brown walnut and high-gloss grey wood trim as well as neva grey/magma grey and sienna brown/black upholstery combinations. There are also an assortment of new two-tone designo nappa leather options including classic red/black, saddle brown/black, tartufo brown/black, deep white/black and yacht blue/black.

An assortment of diesel engines will be available including an entry-level 1.9-liter four-cylinder with 191 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Customers can also opt for a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 261 hp and 406 lb-ft or a 3.0-liter inline-six developing 325 hp and 700 Nm of torque. On the petrol side, the CLS 350 has a 2.0-liter with 295 hp and 400 Nm of torque. One step up is the CLS 450 4MATIC, which has 3.0-liter inline-six producing 362 hp and 500 Nm of torque.

Last but not least, there’s the CLS 53 4MATIC+ which has 3.0-liter inline-six with (320/435 hp) and (520 Nm) of torque. It is connected a nine-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drives system which enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The 2022 CLS 450 4MATIC will arrive at U.S. dealerships early next year and additional details will be announced closer to launch.
