Chinese automaker Aion has launched its fourth production model, an all-electric hatchback dubbed the Y, into production. You can order one for roughly US$ 16,000 – US$ 23,000, but it is not be available outside of China.

The five-door hatchback debuted as a concept car last year. The production car is 4,410 mm long, 1,870 mm wide and 1,645 mm tall with 2,750 mm between the axles. There are McPherson struts at the front end and semi-dependent suspension in the back. Wheels come in sizes from 17 to 19 inches, and LED lights come standard in all trims.

The basic specification includes a traditional dash gauge cluster along with a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen. Higher trim levels replace the old dash with a 10.25-inch display. Options include all-around view cameras, adaptive cruise control, power adjustments for the front seats, panoramic roof, and more.

For the first time on Aion’s record, the Y makes use of traction batteries developed by GAC. The base spec has 60 kWh of power storage and 410 km of NEDC-rated range. It comes powered by a single electric motor rated at 134 hp and 225 Nm.

Other versions benefit from a stronger 181-hp engine with the same peak torque and a 70-kWh battery rated for 500 km of range. The top option has 80 kilowatt-hours and is said to be capable of covering 600 km on a single charge.
