Porsche did not launch a Cayman GT4 RS in the model’s first generation, but in the 718 Cayman GT4, an RS variant will finally become a reality. The German car manufacturer has been spied testing the hardcore, track-focused variant of the already potent Cayman GT4 for a number of months now and this video from Automotive Mike shows the car being put to the test at the Nurburgring. In addition to looking very fast, it also sounds superb.
Much like the standard Cayman GT4, the RS
will rock a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six. In the GT4, this engine
produces 414 hp and 420 Nm of torque, allowing it to hit 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 304 km/h. Porsche
will inevitably boost power and torque for the RS. Details are sketchy, but we
expect roughly 444 hp, giving the car a decent power advantage over the GT4
without stepping on the toes of the new 911 GT3.
Power will be sent to the rear wheels and
both six-speed manual and PDK transmissions should be available. While noise
regulations, particularly those in Europe, have forced car manufacturers to
make quieter models, Porsche has still been able to ensure the Cayman GT4 RS
sounds great. After all, it’s hard to hide that screaming flat-six, no matter
how many mufflers and catalytic converters you install.
We expect to see the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS
unveiled before the end of the year, with customer deliveries probably kicking
off in 2022.
