While the auto industry eagerly awaits the launch of the production-ready Cadillac Lyriq, the car manufacturer has revealed that it will unveil the Lyriq show car to the public for the first time at this month’s Shanghai Auto Show. Cadillac took off the wraps to the Lyriq concept in August last year but due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it hasn’t yet been showcased in the flesh to anyone outside of Cadillac itself. That will change in Shanghai when attendees have the opportunity to check it out in person.
Cadillac has previously stated that the
Lyriq show car is 80-85 per cent representative of the eventual production
model and a recently-released ‘spy shot’ confirmed the street-legal SUV will
indeed have a very similar shape. The Lyriq is expected to go on sale in 2022
so we do expect to see the production model before the end of the year.
When it launches, the Lyriq will use GM’s
advanced Ultium electric powertrain that will offer up to 482 km of
range with the flagship 100 kWh battery. The Lyriq will also have an interior
filled with all the latest technologies, including a massive 33-inch LED
display. Prices will start at under US$ 60,000, undercutting the Tesla Model X.
