Ford Europe has revealed a part of its lineup electrification strategy that mentions the need to offer the Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom vans in mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric forms in addition to the main ICE specification.
The production of the battery van – which
goes by the provisional name of E-Transit Custom – will take place at the Ford
Otosan factory in Turkey, where the company pieces together full-size Transits
and compact Customs. A facility close by handles the production of the Transit
Courier and Tourneo Courier. Planned investment exceeds €2 billion, a part of
which the company plans to put into increasing the production of traction
batteries in Spain.
The next-gen vans should hit the assembly
lines in the first half of 2023 along with another unnamed VW-branded van (most
likely the Transporter T7).
