Genesis has teased what appears to be the all-electric version of the G80 sedan prior to its unveiling at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 19. The South Korean car manufacturer recently posted up an impending livestream for the vehicle on YouTube and while it doesn’t confirm what it is, a darkened image of the front fascia leads us to believe it is the electric G80, expected to be dubbed the eG80.
The vehicle featured in the teaser has the
same blocked-off front grille as an eG80 prototype that was spied testing last
August. The headlights and creases on the hood also match the combustion-engine
G80, which makes it unlikely that this is a teaser for another electric
Genesis, namely the eGV70 or the Hyundai Ioniq 5-based Genesis JW crossover.
With the exception of the new grille and a
revised rear fascia, the eG80 will look largely identical to the standard
model. As such, it will continue to sport quad taillights and retain its
sloping roofline.Details about the electric powertrain haven’t been announced.
Some sources assert the battery pack will be big enough to offer 500
km of range on a charge. It is also understood that the eG80 will feature a
Level 3 autonomous driving technology suite co-developed by Hyundai Motor
Company and Samsung Electronics.
Given the demand for luxurious sedans in
China, and the fact that it’s virtually the only country on earth currently
hosting auto shows, it’s no surprise Genesis has selected Shanghai as the place
to reveal the eG80.
