Earlier this year, we covered the launch of the Hurtan Grand Albaycin, the wacky-looking, rebodied Mazda MX-5 RF. The good news now is that more people who aren’t from Spain but thought it looked good enough, might be able to get one now.
The coachbuilder has announced that it
will work with dealers in France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Russia, and the
United Arab Emirates. Better yet, thanks to a collaboration agreement between
Hurtan and Mazda, the Grand Albaycin now has Europe-wide approval. So, even if
it isn’t sold in your country, you might still be able to import it.
Along with the announcement, Hurtan has
chosen to show off the second trim level of its Grand Albaycin. In “Bespoke”
trim, it gets a new grille and new 17-inch rims. On top of that it can be
ordered in soft-top or Targa spec, just like the Miata it’s based on. Indeed,
like the Mazda roadster, it has two engine options. Here, it’s seen in the more
muscular 2.0-liter, 181 hp spec. It can be fitted with an automatic
transmission. Capable of hitting 62 mph in 6.8 seconds, according to Hurtan,
it’s slower than the standard MX-5, which hits 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Top speed
for the 2.0-liter car is 219 km/h and for the 1.5-liter it’s 204 km/h despite making just 130 hp.
Although pricing for the Bespoke trim has
not been officially revealed, Hurtan has previously revealed that the Grand
Albaycin starts at € 59,000 (US$ 70,000) for the 1.5-liter model. The Heritage
Carbio, meanwhile, costs € 82,300 (US$ 98,000).
