Mercedes-Benz has previewed the forthcoming eCitan with a host of official “spy shots.” The German car manufacturer is developing the second-generation Citan with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance and it is expected to be based on the same platform as the Renault Kangoo.
For the most part, the electric variant
will look identical to ICE-powered models, albeit the Three-Pointed Star badge
on the front can be opened up and houses the charging port. While not easily
visible in these photos, previous images of Citan prototypes have confirmed it
will have sleek headlights with integrated LEDs, circular fog lights, sliding
rear doors, and vertical taillights. This prototype also has black wheels,
slightly different than the black and silver wheels of other prototypes
recently spotted.
We know that the Citan will be offered
with petrol and diesel powertrains, in addition to the all-electric powertrain.
Unfortunately, we don’t yet have any horsepower or torque figures for any of
the available powertrains.
In a press release confirming development
of the new van, Mercedes-Benz said “compact outside dimensions and at the same
time generous space with a high storage volume in the interior open diverse
possible applications for the small van, especially in inner-urban distribution
haulage,” adding that “the vehicle concept provides comprehensive safety
equipment and a high level of driving comfort.” The Mercedes-Benz Citan will be
unveiled in the second half of 2021.
