Mercedes-Benz took to the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show to present several newcomers to their range, including the 2021 C-Class L. As its name implies, the model is the long wheelbase version of the new generation C-Class, and besides the extra space between the two axles, it also debuts a new, classic grille design, complete with the brand’s hood ornament, offered alongside the more common grille.
The new C-Class L doesn’t only free up
additional legroom for rear passengers, but also enhances comfort at the back
with the plusher head restraints, bigger armrest with a more spacious stowage
compartment, cup holders and USB ports, better sound-proofing and comfort
suspension, with the latter two being specific to the China market.
Mercedes-Benz refrained from releasing the
dimensions of the car, but Chinese media claim that it is 4,882 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,461 mm tall. At 2,954 mm, the wheelbase is 89 mm longer than the standard C-Class,
improving on the old extended model by 34 mm.
Developed for and sold exclusively in
China, the 2021 C-Class L will launch in two trim levels, the C200 L and C260
L. We still have to improve our Mandarin, but it seems that the C200 L will get
a 170 PS 1.5-liter engine and the C260 L will be available
with a 204 PS 1.5-liter mild-hybrid or a 204 PS 2.0-liter unit. They will all be offered with a nine-speed automatic
transmission, while the 4Matic all-wheel drive system will be limited to the
upper specs.
