Chinese automaker Roewe has just unveiled the Jing concept at the Shanghai Auto Show that previews an upcoming SUV from the SAIC-owned brand. In the company’s own words, “Jing” stands for whale, with the front grille “vaguely resembling a whale mouth” and in particular, the filter-feeding system found inside the mouths of Baleen whales like the Humpback and Blue.
The front end of the concept also sports
LED headlights with boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. Elsewhere, it
features a black finish across the pillars and roof as well as flush door
handles and black body cladding on the skirts, while it also sits on a set of
star-spoked alloy wheels.
Continuing the theme of the complex
lighting display at the front is a rear end that also makes use of LEDs with a
prominent light bar and separate LED light units on either side of the
tailgate. Other key design highlights of the concept include a sloping roofline
and a roof spoiler.
China’s Sohu reports that the production
model will look very similar to this concept and is expected to hit the local
market in the coming months, meaning it should be unveiled soon. It will be
offered with petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains while an all-electric
variant will also be offered through Roewe’s R sub-brand.
