Overlanding and van living are two of the hottest trends at the moment, so it comes as no surprise that Airstream, a company best known for their travel trailers and high-end motorhomes, would want to get in on the game. Their foray into the market comes in the form of the Interstate 24X, a more rugged, off-road version of their Interstate 24 touring coach that’s ready to venture out into the wilderness.

The vehicle uses a Mercedes Sprinter 3500 as its base, which features a 170-inch wheelbase and 24-foot-long living area. It’s powered by a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engine making 188 hp and 441 Nm of torque, and sending it to all four wheels through a 7-speed transmission. This allows the van to tow up to 2,268 kg with the included hitch. As for what makes it more off-road ready, the Interstate 24X features protective body cladding, an array of light bars and pods, and all-terrain tires.

Inside, there’s seating for up to 6 and sleeping space for 2, and the large rear bed can be configured in 4 different ways: a single bed, twin beds, a split bed in the front, or a split bed in the rear. The kitchen includes a solid surface countertop with a deep sink and cover, a 2-burner cooktop, a 0.7 cubic foot microwave, and a 5.0 cubic foot refrigerator with 1.6 cubic foot freezer. The van also includes a heated wet bath with a towel rack, lavy, mirror, and shower curtain.

In regards to its electrical system, the 24X includes two 100 Ah deep cycle lithium Battle Born batteries, a 30 Amp energy management system, a 2000 Watt power inverter, 300W of flexible solar panels for the house batteries, an additional 100W solar panel for the chassis battery, and a solar controller with additional portable solar panel inputs on the curb and street sides. There’s also a Cummins Onan 2.5 kW generator with remote and auto start to keep everything running smoothly.

Other amenities include a Resonado speaker system with Bluetooth enabled house radio, a 13,500 BTU air conditioner, a hydronic Timberline furnace and hot water system, and exterior wash stations at the rear and side of the vehicle. Pricing for the Interstate 24X will start at US$ 213,850, and Airstream dealers are currently taking orders ahead of receiving inventory in the coming weeks.
