Huawei and Seres, a brand that enters the Dongfeng Sokon Group, have handed the first Seres SF5 vehicles to those who placed pre-orders starting from April 20. The specific numbers aren’t disclosed. Huawei claims it received around 3,000 orders within three days from the initial announcement of the Seres SF5, and around 10,000 total by the end of the first week. If you were to order one now, you would need to wait until late July for the delivery.

Technically, the SF5 is a range extender hybrid, which means its 1.5-liter turbocharged engine only provides electric power for the main motor. The car hits the asphalt with 550 PS and has a peak torque of 820 Nm. It needs 4.7 seconds to go 0-100 km/h and has an NEDC-rated range of 1,000 kilometers. Buyers can choose between FWD and AWD.

Among other things, Huawei’s first car features a proprietary all-wheel-drive system design and a number of driving aids of the tech company’s own make. As Huawei had stated before, entering the car market was a viable strategy for it to diversify its business that struggles under U.S. sanctions. Projected car sales volume for 2022 is 300,000 units.
