The Ram 1500 lineup is expanding for 2022 as the company has introduced the new Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T. Described as customized performance trucks straight from the factory, the models feature a number of upgrades including items from the Ram 1500 TRX.
Available exclusively in a crew cab configuration, the trucks are distinguished by a ventilated hood and G/T decals. Bigger changes occur in the cabin as the G/T variants trade a rotary shifter for a console-mounted “performance shifter.” Drivers will also find steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and metal pedals. Rounding out the highlights are front bucket seats with G/T badging and all-weather floor mats.
Last but not least, the infotainment system comes with Performance Pages that provide real-time vehicle performance information and a 0-96 km/h timer. The information can also be downloaded onto a USB stick for later viewing.
Both models are powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with mild-hybrid technology. While that’s not too unusual, the G/Ts are equipped with a factory-installed cold-air intake and a cold-end exhaust. Ram didn’t mention any specific gains, but the Mopar part listing for the cold-air intake says it “increase[s] airflow, power and torque.” This suggests the trucks should have more than 395 hp and 556 Nm of torque.
The trucks will go on sale in the third quarter and pricing starts at US$ 55,375 for the Rebel G/T, while the Laramie G/T begins at US$ 55,480 – both excluding a US$ 1,695 destination fee.
