Toyota Motor Company has slightly retouched its main Corolla lineup in Japan, landing it with new tech options and exterior finish. A new feature called Plus Support enables the car to filter out random and erroneous accelerator pedal pushes, and not accelerate into the wall. Such accidents have been on the rise in Japan lately, especially among elderly people, so the safety aid may be quite welcome.

The S and WxB trim levels now include Nanoe X, an air purification system co-designed with Panasonic to neutralize harmful microorganisms. Finally, customers may now pick Emotional Red III as the exterior finish.

Prices range between 1,936,000 and 2,948,000 Japanese Yen for the sedan version, 2,013,000 – 2,997,500 JPY for the wagon, and 2,169,000 – 2,841,000 for the hatchback. The 12th-gen Corolla came out three years ago based on the TNGA platform. In Japan, customers can choose between a 1.2-liter turbo-four engine rated at 116 metric horsepower and 185 Nm and an electrified 1.8-liter non-turbo good for 122 PS. The former comes with a CVT gearbox in FWD and AWD variants, while the latter is AWD by default.
