Battle Approved Motors, or BAM for short, has shared the first images of its upcoming off-roader dubbed the R101, an all-electric two-seat quadricycle marketed as a cross between a Tesla and a Ferrari for dirt driving.

The owner of the company is none other than Chris James, BMX ex-pilot. He points out that the development of the R101 took five years and is finally approaching completion, although it is not quite there yet.

Feature-wise, the off-roader brings an internal roll cage, long-travel suspension that should enable fast and confident off-road driving, adjustable ground clearance, and a tech-heavy cabin with two seats and four displays. The powertrain specs remain to be announced, but they should exceed those of typical ICE UTVs. BAM is currently collecting the necessary funding for the production (it has already received nearly US$ 840,000). If all goes according to plan, the company plans to start shipments next year.

Texas-based startup firm Volcon works on a somewhat similar project called the Grunt, although that one will be available in quad bike and motorbike forms if it ever reaches the mass market.
