The R 18 lineup is expanding as BMW Motorrad has introduced the new B and Transcontinental. Starting with the latter, the R 18 Transcontinental is billed as a “Grand American Tourer” that is ideal for long distance travel. Given its mission, the bike has been equipped with a front fairing and a relatively large windshield. The model also features body-color wind deflectors, auxiliary lights, heated grips, and a heated seat that is focused on comfort. Rounding out the highlights are body-color cases, a 10.25-inch display, and a Marshall audio system with up to four speakers and two subwoofers.
The R 18 B is similar, but it draws inspiration from baggers and is a bit sportier. Among the changes are a shorter windscreen, a slimmer non-heated seat and matte black accents. Buyers looking for something more unique will be able to order a First Edition. Available on both bikes, the special editions have classic black paintwork that contrasts with chrome accents and white double-lining. The models are also equipped with a special seat and First Edition badging.
Both motorcycles are powered by a 1.8-liter two-cylinder Big Boxer engine that produces 90 hp and more than 150 Nm of torque. They can also be equipped with an assortment of accessories including milled aluminum components and “Option 719” items such as Galaxy Dust metallic paint.
The bikes will arrive in the United States next month and pricing starts at US$ 21,495 for the R 18 B. Likewise, the R 18 Transcontinental begins at US$ 24,995 and this makes it more expensive than the Honda Goldwing.
