Stellantis’ EV Day was jam-packed with announcements and teasers, but one of the most unexpected came from Chrysler. As you’re well aware, Chrysler is a shell of its former self as it’s been relegated to selling a minivan, an old version of that minivan, and an even older sedan. This strategy has worked wonders for the brand as sales have plummeted from 324,846 units in 2015 to just 110,464 last year.
Thankfully, someone must have gotten lost in Auburn Hills and stumbled upon the brand’s rotting corpse and decided to do something about it. However, instead of properly disposing of it, they decided to whip up an electric crossover. The company didn’t say much about the model, but it sort of resembles a mix between the ill-fated 200 and a Ford Mustang Mach-E. As you can see, the crossover has a streamlined front fascia with a slender grille that resides beneath slim headlights.
Moving further back, there’s a rakish windscreen which flows into a sloping roof. The model also has plastic body cladding, large alloy wheels and an angular rear pillar. The interior is decidedly more futuristic as it features a freestanding infotainment system, which is flanked by four other displays. One of them is a digital instrument cluster, while another is an infotainment system for the front passenger. Since five displays clearly isn’t enough, two more have been added for back seaters.
Putting the screens aside, the model has a two-spoke steering wheel and elegant leather upholstery. We can also see a panoramic glass roof, a floating center console and an ambient lighting system. Little is known about the model at this point, but Ralph Gilles suggested it rides on the STLA Large platform. It’s slated to underpin electric vehicles with a range of up to 805 km, thanks to a battery pack with a capacity ranging from 101 kWh to 118 kWh.
