MINI is celebrating 60 years of collaboration with the Cooper family by introducing a new Anniversary Edition. Unveiled in time to mark the Cooper’s 60th anniversary in September, the model is based on the three-door hatchback and pays tribute to John Cooper who passed away in 2000.
Available in Cooper, Cooper S and JCW guise, the special edition features a British Racing Green, Midnight Black or Rebel Green exterior with contrasting White and Piano Black accents. Buyers will also find hood stripes and “74” numbering on the doors, which honor the number the original model wore when the car won its first race. Other highlights include 18-inch alloy wheels as well as “Cooper” badging on the side scuttles and C-pillars.
Moving into the cabin, designers outfitted the model with Dinamica / leather sport seats, an anthracite headliner and a Nappa leather sport steering wheel with Cooper badging. Other touches include Piano Black trim, red accents, stainless steel pedals, and the signatures of John, Mike and Charlie Cooper.
Production will be limited to 740 units worldwide, but there’s no immediate word on how many are coming to America or how much they’ll cost. However, they’ll have familiar powertrains including a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder with 134 hp and 219 Nm of torque.
If you opt for the Cooper S, MINI rewards buyers with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder developing 189 hp and 279 Nm of torque. Finally, there’s the JCW variant which has an upgraded version of the aforementioned engine producing 228 hp and 318 Nm of torque.
