We’ve recently been seeing prototypes for the facelifted BMW 8-Series Convertible and Gran Coupe, but now we have one of our first looks at the updated 2-door Coupe. Up front, the lighting elements seem to be largely unchanged, while a normal-sized grille and lower fascia appear to have received some mild tweaks.
The center intake looks to be
partitioned like the new M3 and M4‘s, adopting the “smiling” shape of many
other new BMWs, and the outer intakes now appear more squared off than the
hexagonal ones found on the current 8-Series Coupe. The sides were left
completely uncovered, leading us to believe they will remain the same as the
current car
The rear appears to be nearly
identical to the outgoing model, with the main change coming in the form of an
updated lower bumper area. Sitting between the concealed quad exhaust pipes,
the diffuser of the old model looks to have been replaced by a mesh vent that’s
almost reminiscent of the one on the E92 M3. The taillights could also be new
given that they’re covered, although by looks alone, they seem to be the same
as the current model’s.
Our spy photographers were
also able to get a limited view of the interior, which appears to be the same
as the ones spotted in the Convertible and Gran Coupe prototypes. It has the
same overall design as the current car’s, but now features the new 12.3-inch
infotainment system from the facelifted 5-Series.
The facelifted 8-Series will
be released within the coming months, likely sometime between the end of this
year and the first half of 2022. Engine options are expected to remain the
same, although it’s possible we could see a mild bump in power. Overall, this
mid-cycle refresh looks like it will be the same across the entire 8-Series
range, and it seems like it will be much more conservative than some of the
ones we’ve seen on more recent BMWs.
