With the 2021 Porsche 911 GT3 getting favorable reviews, the world is holding its breath for the even more extreme GT3 RS version, which is expected next year. The first prototypes were spied in 2020 but development has moved on since, and the latest spy shots are revealing more details on the GT3 RS’s final design and different components under the camouflage. Look close enough and you will notice that this 911 GT3 RS prototype is wearing a new hood with huge double scoops featuring some kind of aerodynamic flaps. It also sports a redesigned front bumper with larger side intakes and a pair of wide front fenders with air extractors covered by fake body extensions.
While the rear bumper is also covered, we can see the new swan neck design for the ridiculously massive, and active, rear spoiler sitting on the engine cover. Given that the model is close to the end of its development, it is possible that this rear wing is the one we are going to see in the final production version. If it does, it will be one of the largest wings offered on a street-legal car, proving the GT3 RS’s connection with the world of motorsports. Another cool feature is the roof flaps which could further improve the car’s aerodynamics for driving on the track.
The GT3 RS is expected to feature a naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine with a rumored displacement of 4.2-liters (increased from the GT3’s 4.0-liter unit), producing between 532-572 hp. Besides the redesigned aero, the new GT3 RS will also get a more focused suspension setup and larger brakes from the already hugely capable GT3. This will make it one of the fastest – if not the fastest – production car around the Nurburgring, at least until Porsche unveils the flagship GT2 RS version of the 992.
Porsche could introduce the 911 GT3 RS as early as this year, although rumor has it that its debut could be delayed over a possible engine certification issue.
