Just when we thought we could take a break reporting on the sad demise of the Honda/Acura NSX, they go and announce a new one. Sorta. Granted, assuming you don’t represent a top-flight race team, you won’t be able to go out and buy one, but the announcement of the NSX GT3 Evo22 promises we’ll see Acura’s supercar on tracks until at least 2024.
The Evo22 will build on the
success of the Acura NSX GT3 Evo, with the latest round of revisions focusing
on addressing team and driver needs. As the name implies, it’s an evolution of
the existing car. Areas that will see tweaks are improved intercoolers, revised
spring rates coupled with suspension geometry changes, increased fluid tank
sizes for endurance racing, and wheel system changes to cut tire change times. Also
included is a new FIA-mandated rain light. There will also be improved air
conditioning options and different headlights available.
According to a report last
month by Sportscar365, the latest evolution isn’t being made as a result of
2022’s refreshed GT3 regulations but rather due to the fact that the car has
been racing without changes for the past three years. Under the new regs,
performance will stay largely the same, with BoP (Balance of Performance) being
the key aspect of the rule changes.
The Acura NSX GT3 Evo22’s
chassis will continue to be produced at the Performance Manufacturing Center in
Marysville, Ohio. JAS Motorsport completes the final assembly of each unit in
Milan, Italy, and will also continue to provide parts and technical support in Europe.
In North America, the NSX GT3 has racked up 25 victories over four seasons in
IMSA GTD and SRO GT competition. It’s also the defending IMSA GTD and SRO GT
Manufacturers’ champion. Additionally, the NSX GT3 Evo competes in both Japan
and Europe, badged as a Honda.
The new NSX GT3 Evo22 is
available to order and is homologated through 2024.
