A few months after announcing a tuning kit for the Cupra Formentor, ABT Sportsline brings similar updates for the Cupra Leon which is sharing its underpinnings with the sporty SUV. The kit is available for the 2.0 TSI versions of both the Hatchback and Sportstourer bodystyles, bringing power boost and handling improvements. In the future, the company will probably offer an upgrade for the electrified 1.4 TSI of the Cupra Leon e-Hybrid. Various versions of the four-cylinder 2.0 TSI engine can be found in several models of the VW Group (Audi S3, VW Golf GTI / R, VW T-Roc R, Skoda Octavia RS, Seat / Cupra Leon, Cupra Formentor etc) so it was quite easy for ABT‘s engineers to tune it.
By upgrading the ECU software, they managed to extract up to 355 hp in the Cupra Leon and up to 365 hp and in the more practical Cupra Leon Sportstourer. In both models, the torque is boosted to 450 Nm This makes them 49 hp and 50 Nm more powerful than the stock models.
As a reminder, the Leon Hatchback is front-wheel-drive while the Leon Sportstourer has the 4drive system sending power to all four wheels through a 7-speed DSG gearbox. ABT didn’t announce the performance figures but they will certainly be a tad quicker than the stock models. The FWD Hatchback accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, while the AWD Sportstourer needs 4.7 seconds in stock form.
Besides the power upgrades, the tuner gave the Cupra Leon a nice set of 20-inch ABT Sport GR multispoke alloy wheels, available in matte or glossy black finish, shod in 235/30 R20 tires. Finally, the stiffer ABT suspension springs lower the car up to 30 mm (1.18 inches) and improve its road-holding abilities. The ABT tuning kit including the power upgrade, the wheels, and the suspension, is offered at a price of € 5,990 (US$ 7,034) without including the installation costs.
