Ioniq 6, Hyundai’s latest electric sedan using the E-GMP platform, has been spotted in what looks like its final production body and trim in the United States. On the outside, the model looks much like the Hyundai Prophecy Concept revealed last year (watch the video if you missed it). The disguise is incomplete with only the doors, the front fascia and the rear end covered; the wheels, the slanted roof and the rear window can be clearly seen.
Compared to its conceptual predecessor, the mass-market car gains a distinct b-pillar, larger fenders, regular rear doors instead of ‘suicide doors’, conventional side mirrors instead of cameras, and longer overhangs. The door handles are recessed, though, just like on the Ioniq 5.
Sales are expected to begin in 2022. Another Ioniq-badged car – an EV SUV known as Number 7 – will follow it to the market two years later. Aside from these, the E-GMP platform provides the foundations for the Genesis GV60, Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, and is expected to see more use in battery cars the future.
