General Motors is gearing up to launch 30 electric vehicles by 2025 and it appears we’re getting a glimpse at one of them. As you can see in these patent photos noticed by MotorTrend, SAIC-GM filed an application that features pictures of what appears to be an electric Chevrolet Equinox. While the greenhouse and doors are instantly recognizable, the crossover features a new front end that vaguely recalls the 2022 Bolt and Bolt EUV. The model also has a slender light bar and an aerodynamic front fascia with a distinctive faux intake.
Moving further back, there are
aerodynamic wheels and unique front fenders. They’re joined by new side
cladding, which looks more rugged than what’s found on the standard Equinox.
The rear end is evolutionary,
but there are a handful of notable changes. Key among them is a flush-mounted
bumper that eschews exhaust cut outs. We can also see a lightly modified
spoiler as well as new taillights that are connected to spawn the entire width
of the vehicle.
The model is certainly curious
as the Equinox is reaching middle age and was recently given a facelift. This
makes it less than ideal for an EV conversion, but it seems like this could
potentially be a concept. That remains to be seen, but the photos show a
patterned design on the lower body as well as the A- and C-pillars. GM did
something similar with the 2007 Equinox fuel cell vehicle, which was used for
testing purposes.
