Not too long ago, Lamborghini introduced the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae and confirmed that it would be the final iteration of its current flagship. This means that its successor is already under development and an intriguing Aventador prototype was recently spied testing at a Lamborghini facility in Italy.
The Aventador in question is adorned with many parts from the standard Aventador S, so much so that it looks virtually identical from the front end. Things get interesting at the rear, however, where the prototype’s exhaust is completely exposed, showcasing the tri-tailpipe design of the car in full. The matte black prototype also has rear bumper components painted in blue.
If the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae is indeed the final variant of its flagship mid-engined supercar, this prototype could be testing some components for the supercar’s successor. Even if that’s the case, at this point it’s not possible to say what these may be, but as development continues other, possibly more revealing, prototypes will be spotted testing.
Lamborghini could be excused for killing off its V12 engine with the Aventador’s successor due to the car industry’s ongoing push towards all-electric vehicles. However, the company’s chief executive Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed that the car will have an all-new V12 which will be supplemented by a hybrid system, although it won’t be the same system as the limited-edition Sian, meaning an advanced supercapacitor isn’t to be expected.
