Mercedes-AMG is gearing up to unveil the redesigned SL on October 28th at 10:00 a.m. EST (4:00 p.m. CEST) and the company has released a revealing teaser video ahead of its debut. Starting up front, we can see an aggressive front fascia that echoes the one found on the GT. Notable highlights include sweptback headlights which reside on either side of an AMG-branded grille. We can also see flush-mounted door handles, a sporty four-tailpipe exhaust system, and what appears to be a carbon fiber front splitter.
Elsewhere, the SL has slender taillights
and what appears to be a power retractable rear spoiler. We can also see
lightweight AMG wheels that are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. While
the video only provides a glimpse of the interior, it isn’t much of a surprise
as the cabin was revealed over the summer. It features the return of the 2+2
seating arrangement, which was last seen on the R 129 in 1989.
Despite that old school touch, the cabin
is thoroughly modern as it features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and
an 11.9-inch infotainment system. Drivers will also find turbine-style air
vents, a Burmester audio system, and stylish seats wrapped in Nappa leather or
Nappa leather with microfiber accents.
The biggest question remains the powertrain
lineup, but the teaser video confirms the SL will be offered with a twin-turbo
V8 engine as well as all-wheel drive. The engine will presumably be offered
with multiple outputs and we’ll have full details shortly.
