Changan has taken the wraps of Lumin, a three-door supermini hatchback EV only 3.27 meters long. The four-seater comes with an optional battery rated for 300 km of electric range. According to AutoHome, the Changan Lumin has its work cut out for it in this segment of the market, because it will have to compete against the ultra-popular Wuling Hongguang Mini EV.

Being around 1.7 meters wide and 1.55 meters tall with just under 2 meters of wheelbase, the Lumin is a typical boxy-looking subcompact. Its round headlamps makes it resemble the Chery QQ Ice Cream, yet another would-be rival on the crowded market of China. Still, despite its tiny dimensions, the Lumin is actually larger than most competition, so maybe that would help it stand out a bit more.

Inside, the front fascia sports a lighter-hued panel in it housing HVAC physical controls and a 10.2-inch multimedia display. There is also a digital dashboard and a three-spoke steering wheel. Vivid accents all around serve to highlight the car’s positioning as an EV for the young and energetic.

Speaking of energetic: the word ‘lethargic’ probably applies better to the electric motor, which churns out 41 PS with no other alternatives on offer. On the upside, customers can choose from three battery sizes. The smallest one is 12.9 kWh, giving you up to 155 km of range, and the largest one is 28 kWh for up to 300 km. Pricing remains to be announced.
