After launching the new Mini Countryman, the brand will focus on releasing a compact electric crossover, Autocar reports. The CUV will allegedly be coming as a replacement for the current-gen Clubman in five-door hatchback and wagon forms. The production will reportedly take place at the BMW-Great Wall joint enterprise in China.

Autocar believes that the other Minis, namely the 3-Door Hatch and the Countryman, will preserve their current styling, while the electric CUV will pioneer a new design to attract new clientele. Releasing this still-to-be-named crossover would enable Mini to differentiate its lineup further by releasing an even larger flagship model later.  This would enable the company to draw in customers with families, who need a spacious car for their daily driving. Aside from that, the marque reportedly believes that the biggest Mini will find popularity in the USA.

When the CUV reaches the showrooms, it will fight for customers’ attention and wallets against the likes of the Peugeot e-2008 and the recently launched Smart #1. Production will begin next year.
