The SAIC-GM joint enterprise in Wuhan Province, China, has started producing the Buick Electra E5. The all-electric crossover SUV has not been properly introduced yet: we only have some exterior shots and select specifications, but no launch date or pricing details. The Electra E5 is the marque’s first production vehicle to run on an innovative unitized platform known as the Ultium. The car was designed from the ground up in China by PATAC Engineering and Technical Center.
According to a patent certificate
published a while ago, the car is 4,892 mm long, 1,905 mm wide and 1,655 mm
tall with 2,954 mm between the axles. Its exterior follows the styling
direction of other recent Buick models, especially at the front end. There are
LED headlights, flush door handles, a panoramic sunroof, and wheels available
in 18- and 20-inch sizes.
The base trim spec includes a digital
dashboard and a multimedia system with over-the-air update support. In addition
to the above, the Buick Electra E5 will be the first China-made car to offer
Super Cruise Control, a system that can only function without limitations in
the United States and Canada right now.
All technical specifications remain to be
revealed, but the patent docs mention a single electric motor with 245 PS at the output end. We should learn more soon, especially since the
sales are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2023.
