The G60 BMW 5-Series continues cruising the streets of Munich, Germany, as evidenced by these spy shots of a disguised saloon. It has been a while since the tests started, and everything looks just about ready for production – there are no more fake panels on the car, just the wrap, and the lighting all around seems finalized.
The front end looks like something we are
all used to. Unlike the expensive 7-Series, the X7 and the XM, it looks like
the more affordable BMW models will be making do without the split headlights.
The Hoffmeister kink is still there as well, but the door handles are now flush
with the body and the taillights are slimmer and mounted higher than in the
current generation. We already know that BMW will be offering the new 5-Series
in the same selection of body styles. The sedan will be the first to reach the
market, followed by a wagon for Europe and a stretched saloon for China.
Like the 7-Series, the new 5-Series will
stay true to its CLAR architecture. The powertrain lineup will include gas
engines, diesels, hybrids and the all-electric i5 version, which will be barely
different from its ICE cousins in everything besides the powertrain.
The cylinder count will be restricted to 4
and 6 in each case. Only the M5 will be getting a twin-turbocharged V8, and
that one will be electrified like on the XM. The old 550i spec with its
4.4-liter V8 rated at 530 PS will be gone, too, replaced with
a plug-in hybrid based on a 3.0-liter inline-six mill. The media believe that
the sales in Europe will begin in August 2023, while the i5 will likely follow
in October 2023, although these dates are not official. As for the premiere, we
expect it in early spring.
