Starting next year, EV maker Rivian plans to introduce a couple of entry specs to its lineup, CarBuzz reports quoting representatives of the company. Despite a performance target between 600 and 700 horsepower, both versions will be considered ‘affordable’. Right now, the R1T pickup truck and the R1S SUV ship with quad motors driving the wheels with 835 PS and 1,220 Nm of torque.

The new cheapest spec is envisioned with ‘just’ 609 PS. It will enable both models to sprint 0-97 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The next version up the line will offer 710 PS and a sprint time a whole second shorter. The current quad-motor setup hits 97 km/h in around three seconds flat.

Buyers will be able to choose from two new battery options, too, one rated at 420 km and the other one at 530 km of range. A range-topping option with 640 km in store will also arrive soon, but it will only be available for the pickup – the R1S simply doesn’t have enough free space for it.

Both entry-level EVs are expected to cost US$ 67,500 before options. Rivian had earlier promised to ship its four-motor model at that price, but supply chain disruptions and other difficulties forced it to raise prices across the board. A look inside the company’s official car configurator reveals that the R1T currently starts from US$ 87,000 before any extra charges.
