Mahindra is working on a truck version of the Scorpio N SUV and this was previewed today by a new concept at the “Futurescape” event in Cape Town, South Africa. The “Global Pik Up” as it is called is set to evolve into a production model by 2025, competing with the likes of the Ford Ranger and the Toyota Hilux in markets like South Africa, Australia, and India. The concept adopts a front end that is very similar to the Mahindra Scorpio N, albeit with yellow marker lights on the grille and a unique bumper featuring a metal plate, recovery points, and vertical DRLs. The profile boasts a notably longer wheelbase, a greenhouse reminiscent of the Nissan Navara, and a generously-sized rear bed behind the dual cab.

The Global Pik Up concept sits quite high above the ground thanks to a raised suspension. The all-terrain tires, side steps, snorkel, roof rack with integrated LEDs, and spare wheels mounted on the rear bed make for a rugged appearance, which will most likely be toned down in the production version. The rear bed is neatly integrated with the rest of the bodywork instead of the more utilitarian flatbed. At the back, we also find modern LED taillights, Mahindra lettering on the tailgate, and more metal trim and recovery points on the bumper.

The production model will be based on a stretched version of the Scorpio N’s ladder frame chassis. As reported by Autocar India, it will be powered by the next generation of the aluminum mHawk diesel engine and will be paired with 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Power will be transmitted to all four wheels through a proper 4WD system, with four selectable drive modes (Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut, Sand). The truck is also said to feature Level-2 ADAS capability, semi-automatic parking, and 5G connectivity, alongside generous SUV-like comfort and technology equipment.

The Pik Up moniker (not a spelling mistake) is already used in the truck variant of the Scorpio Classic, hinting that the new model could serve as its successor. Note that the Scorpio N that debuted in 2022 is currently sold in India alongside a refreshed variant of its Scorpio Classic predecessor, so Mahindra could use a similar strategy for the trucks in certain countries. The rollout of the Mahindra Scorpio N Pik Up will reportedly start in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East, before being introduced in more countries in the ASEAN and Latin America regions.
