The VW ID. Buzz is expected to gain a more powerful GTX variant next year, with dual electric motors and more power. This new set of spy shots could give us an early preview. In typical Volkswagen fashion, the prototype was caught on public roads – and on the Nurburgring – without any sign of camouflage, revealing the entirety of its slightly altered exterior design. The VW ID. Buzz debuted in production form in 2022 so the pictured prototype is most likely a new version rather than a facelift. The redesigned front bumper features triangular side inlets, visually connected to a new honeycomb central intake. This looks very similar to the ID.7 sedan, marking a departure from the friendlier face of the standard ID. Buzz. The glossy black finish of the splitter continues to the side skirts, mirror caps, rear bumper extension, and rear spoiler, although those features remain identical to the standard van.

The duo-tone five-spoke alloy wheels also appear to be a new option, adding up to the sporty looks. Interestingly, the prototype is based on the long-wheelbase variant, something that is evident from the larger rear sliding doors. This model measures 4,962 mm long, compared to the 4,712 mm of the standard ID. Buzz.

 

During the launch of the US-spec VW ID. Buzz last June, the automaker confirmed that a GTX-branded variant is coming in 2024. This one will use a dual-motor powertrain offering all-wheel-drive capabilities, with a combined output of 335 hp and a 0-100 km/h in a friskier 6.4 seconds. The ID. Buzz GTX will most likely benefit from a revised suspension setup, and combine the sportier exterior with model-specific trim elements inside the cabin.

We expect to learn more about the hotter VW ID. Buzz in the coming months, prior to its market launch next year. Recent reports suggest that VW might axe the EV-only GTX moniker in favor of a new and electrified GTI emblem, but this change could happen later in the future. Note that VW also has the R emblem for flagship performance-focused offerings, although such an extreme variant has not yet been confirmed for the ID. Buzz.
