Volkswagen is ending production of the manual Golf GTI, and to honor the history of the model, it is introducing a North American-exclusive equipment package dubbed the 2024 Golf GTI 380. Equipped as standard on every 2024 Golf GTI fitted with a manual transmission, the special edition equipment package will be given to every customer, whether they opt for the S, SE, or Autobahn trim. It comes with DCC adaptive damping and multispoke 19-inch aluminum alloy wheel that were originally seen on the Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition. The wheels are wrapped in summer performance tires and a gloss black roof matches gloss black mirror caps that pair well with the red detailing around the car.
Inside, the GTI 380 gets a golf ball shift
knob and honeycomb accents. S and SE trim models feature Scalepaper Plaid cloth
seats, while the Autobahn package gets Vienna leather seats. Meanwhile, the name was selected as a reference to the
fourth-generation GTI 337 special edition that was sold in 2002. It borrowed
the internal model code of the first-generation model, while the GTI 380 gets
its name from the internal designation code of the Mk8 Golf.
The new special edition is powered by
Volkswagen’s EA888 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes 241 hp and 370 Nm of torque. It will be offered exclusively
with the six-speed manual transmission, but the normal GTI (and R) will
continue to be offered with the seven-speed DSG transmission. The GTI 380 will
be available with an exclusive color: Graphite Gray Metallic. It will share the
Deep Black Pearl, Atlantic Blue Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, Reflex Silver
Metallic, Moonstone Gray, and Opal White Pearl paint colors with the rest of
the 2024 Golf GTI lineup.
Set to go on sale in the early fall of 2023, the 2024 VW Golf GTI 380 starts at a price of US$ 32,485 for the S model, US$ 37,285 for the SE, and US$ 40,625 for the Autobahn. In Canada, the GTI 380 starts at CAD$ 36,895.
