Modern trucks and SUVs often aim for a tough and rugged appearance, but few can match the commanding road presence of authentic military trucks. A new company called ‘Goat Tactical Vehicles USA’ wants to change that with their new Atlas APC. This vehicle represents a civilian adaptation of a military-spec JLTV, utilizing the Ford F-550 platform to provide unparalleled protection for its occupants. The exterior design of the Atlas APC means business, looking similar to the Oshkosh Defense JLTV that is currently used by the US Army and Marine Corps as the successor to the Humvee. The difference is that this truck is street-legal in 50 US states, meaning that it can be purchased by any individual without the need for any kind of special permit.

The Atlas APC’s angular bodywork, small windows, external storage compartments, optional rotating turret, roof-mounted spare tire, and nine strategically positioned armored gun ports collectively evoke a formidable presence. It gives the impression of readiness for battle whether navigating city streets or performing routine tasks like grocery shopping or school runs.As you can probably tell from the photos, the Atlas APC is much larger than your average full-size truck, measuring 6,325 mm long, 2,540 mm wide, and 2,845 mm tall with a ground clearance of 340 mm. It is also quite heavy, tipping the scales at 7,800 kg. The considerable mass of the Atlas APC isn’t merely for looks; its armored steel construction provides a B6 level of ballistic protection, with the option to upgrade to B7 for heightened security. Additional features include battle locks, EMP shielding, run-flat tires, a siren/PA system, enhanced protection for the engine and radiator, as well as 3-inch thick ballistic window glass throughout the vehicle.


 Moving inside, the dashboard is carried over from the Ford F-Series donor vehicle, and the cabin can seat up to 12 people, depending on the configuration. Goat offers the option of a VIP-style interior with luxurious amenities and leather upholstered seats. Alternatively, owners can choose a more utilitarian setup with loads of cargo space at the back and a 1,500 kg maximum payload capacity. The company also offers the option of a pickup bodystyle, which will probably look less like a vault on wheels.

Under the skin lies a Ford F-550 Super Duty chassis. The Blue Oval’s 6.7-liter V8 diesel is good for 330 hp and 1,017 Nm of torque, transmitted to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox. With a fuel capacity of 39 gallons, the Atlas APC can carry its weight for up to 644 km between refueling stops. Goat says that the Atlas APC starts at US$ 395,000 for the pictured Tactical Configuration, with each build requiring between 60-90 days for delivery. Of course, there are plenty of personalization options, including custom paints, a 360-degree LED lighting package, various interior configurations, and all sorts of roof-mounted equipment.
