BMW has unveiled the XM Mystique Allure, a one-of-a-kind version of their flagship SUV, decked out in enough velvet to upholster a Hollywood mansion. Inspired by none other than British supermodel Naomi Campbell, this purple chariot is the lavish result of BMW’s, ahem, unique partnership with the Cannes Film Festival. The exterior of the BMW XM Mystique Allure flaunts a deeply saturated ultramarine exterior, Naomi Campbell’s favorite hue. The upper bodywork is cloaked in velvet, pretentious yet plush, while the lower half sparkles with frozen metallic sequins—a nod to excess. As the colors shift from intense violet to deep ultramarine, the effect is undeniably showy, though we’re left wondering how it will ever survive a car wash encounter.
Unsurprisingly, the interior of the XM is
also upholstered in purple velvet, from the seats to the door cards and even
the illuminated roof. Additionally, Hans Zimmer, who has teamed up with BMW for
the soundscapes of its electrified fleet, has composed a unique soundtrack for
the plug-in hybrid SUV’s zero-emission mod of the plug-in hybrid SUV.
Predictably, the BMW XM Mystique Allure uses the most powerful version of the
plug-in hybrid powertrain from the Label trim. The setup includes a twin-turbo
4.4-liter V8 and a single electric motor producing a combined 738 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.
BMW has branded the vehicle as a ‘haute
couture’ creation, a term typically reserved for custom-tailored high fashion.
While other luxury automakers like Maybach have ventured into similar bespoke
projects, the XM appears more suited for the auto show circuit than for
everyday driveways.
Alongside the world premiere of its first
fashion-inspired build, BMW is also featured at the 77th Cannes Film Festival
as the provider of over 200 vehicles for shuttle services. This fleet includes
the fully electric BMW i5 and i7 models, as well as the plug-in hybrid XM.
