Mitsubishi expanded the Triton lineup in Australia, with the addition of the GLX-R trim. The new version brings a more sophisticated 4WD system to a lower-spec package, making it more accessible to Australian buyers. The Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R is based on the GLX, which explains the basic-looking halogen headlights and the lack of the chrome Dynamic-Shield inserts at the front. Still, the truck rides on a set of cool black 18-inch wheels, and features a matching sports bar at the back. Other black exterior accents include the grille, mirror caps, and side moldings. Mitsubishi has also opted for a side step delete, creating another point of differentiation compared to other trims.
Inside, the GLX-R rocks black cloth
upholstery with silver stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a fully
carpeted floor. The 9-inch infotainment is included in the standard equipment,
as with a long list of ADAS. Furthermore, the new version introduces the new
Tailgate Assist feature, adding dual struts on the tailgate for easier
operation. As with the rest of the Australian-spec Mitsubishi Triton lineup,
the GLX-R is fitted with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel producing 201 hp and 470 Nm and mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The big news is the addition of the Super
Select II 4WD system, which was previously reserved for the higher-spec GLS and
GSR trims. This one improves the off-road capabilities compared to the lesser
Easy Select 4WD, featuring locking rear and center differentials, and the Drive
Mode Terrain Control system (Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock).
The GLX-R also inherits the “standard
duty” suspension from higher trims which is more focused on comfort than the
“heavy duty” setup found in lesser trims. The first deliveries of the
Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R in Australian dealerships will commence this month. The
new trim is priced at AU$ 56,740 (US$ 39,175), which is AU$ 3,450 (US$ 2,383)
more expensive than the GLX and AU$ 2,350 (US$ 1,623) cheaper than the GLS.
